Netoon Creative's Capt’n Ewen Barbarossa Makes Waves (and Raises Funds) on the Streets of Newcastle

What Was Shaun on the Tyne?

In summer 2023, Newcastle was taken over by a baa-rilliant public art trail: Shaun on the Tyne. Organised by St Oswald’s Hospice, in partnership with Wild in ArtĀ and Aardman Animations, the event saw 45 Shaun the Sheep sculpturesĀ turned into works of art by local artists and creatives.

From Grey Street to the Quayside, locals and visitors explored the trail, snapping selfies and enjoying free, accessible art – all to raise funds for a truly worthy cause.

Our Contribution: Capt’n Ewen BarbarossaĀ šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø

We couldn’t resist putting our own Netoon Creative spin on this iconic sheep. Enter Capt’n Ewen Barbarossa – our swashbuckling pirate Shaun, complete with:

  • Eye patch

  • Golden earring

  • A Treasure Map

  • Tattoos that tell tales of battles on the high seas (or possibly the Tyne)

Capt’n Ewen was placed right in the heart of the city during the trail and quickly became a fan favourite among young explorers and grown-up Shaun fans alike.

Ā£5,500 Raised at Auction! šŸ’°

When the trail ended, the Shaun sculptures were auctioned off to raise funds for St Oswald’s Hospice, helping provide specialist care for adults and children across the North East.

We’re incredibly proud to say that Capt’n Ewen Barbarossa raised a massive Ā£5,500Ā at the live auction!
